What’s In My Low Waste Starter Kit And What I’m Not Replacing yet.
Good morning from Canada!
I’ve had a few people tell me they want to start their low waste journey but don’t know what products to buy first. So instead of answering everyone individually, I thought I’d do a post all about it and also include some things you may not expect!
Please remember that there is no right or wrong way to go low waste. You could simply switch to reusable bags and that’s a good start. This is how I jumped in full force as well as what I am not doing just yet and why. There are really no rules to being low waste. I am not right or wrong and neither is anyone else, I just want to share my experiences that work for myself and my family.
Everything is linked with either the actual actual item I use or some similar!
Bamboo Scrubber Brush for dishes (possibly my favourite thing)
Reusable Bags (I don’t have these but I want them so I included them!)
Stainless Steel Travel Mug (again, not the one I have but I want it)
Glass Travel Cup (not mine but I want this one)
What I’m keeping:
Tupperware/ plastic containers.
I know that there is a fear of BPA and chemicals being released from the containers, but throwing them out doesn’t do anything good. If they work perfectly fine but you’re worried about the chemicals, use them for dry ingredients or non food storage. Throwing away perfectly good stuff doesn’t do any good.
I have OCD and one of my triggers is that I cannot have wet hands/ soak my hands. It is very annoying but it is sadly something that impacts my life a lot so I need to have some form of glove to do dishes, give the girls a bath or even have a shower and wash my hair. It’s very frustrating. I’m always on the hunt for a low impact alternative, so if you know of one, let me know!!! I will say I do use them as long as I can and when they break I just use them for something else. They are not thrown away often.
I am also going to add my wishlist because it may be something you guys are interested in!
Hope you guys found this interesting and I hope it helps you on your journey. Any recommendations or other alternatives you want to share? Comment them down below!
Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next Thursday!
